MotoGP commercial rights holder MotoGP Group, formerly Dorna Sports, has announced a senior management reshuffle that sees Carlos Ezpeleta step up to the role of Deputy CEO. He will work directly alongside his father, Carmelo Ezpeleta, who has helmed the company since its takeover as commercial rights holder.
Previously serving as chief commercial officer, Carlos Ezpeleta has climbed through the management ranks over the years. His promotion signifies Liberty Media's long-term backing of the family. Liberty Media acquired MotoGP Group in 2024 for 4.2 billion euros, bringing the championship under the same corporate umbrella as Formula 1.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the appointment, Carlos Ezpeleta stated that it is a great honour to take on the position during an exciting moment for the championship. He highlighted plans to work alongside Liberty Media and the global community to reach new audiences and unlock the sport's full potential.
Carmelo Ezpeleta endorsed his son's leadership, vision, and passion, noting that Carlos has played a fundamental role in the growth of MotoGP across many years and possesses experience spanning every part of the business. Liberty Media CEO Derek Chang added that Carlos holds the deep understanding of the championship required to help guide its ongoing transformation.
With the promotion confirmed, MotoGP has not yet announced who will step in to replace Carlos Ezpeleta in his previous capacity as chief sporting officer. Carmelo Ezpeleta remains in his position as CEO, continuing to steer the organisation following a tenure that has included navigating periods such as the 2008 financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic.
