Marc Marquez concedes title ground after difficult Silverstone weekend

Marc Marquez arrived at the British Grand Prix holding strong momentum after a dominant double victory at the Sachsenring, sitting just 18 points shy of the championship lead. However, a troubled weekend at Silverstone left the reigning title holder dealing with severe rear tyre degradation in the Sprint and a lonely run to seventh place in the main grand prix. Crossing the finish line nearly ten seconds behind the race winner, Marquez conceded that he simply lacked the pace to contend with his rivals throughout the afternoon.

While Aprilia held a clear performance advantage at the venue, Marquez faced internal struggles as well. He lost top Ducati honours to his brother Alex on the sixth lap before being overtaken by future team-mate Pedro Acosta aboard the KTM. Fabio di Giannantonio later pushed the Spaniard down to seventh in the closing stages. Speaking candidly after the race, Marquez pointed the finger directly at himself rather than his machinery, noting that his physical endurance remains a limiting factor as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery.

The nine-time world champion spent the summer break working on his physical conditioning, which yielded improvements during time attacks. Even so, race distance endurance continues to trouble him, forcing a pragmatic approach to his title defence. Marquez insisted that he is unperturbed by the growing 40-point deficit to championship leader Jorge Martin, stating that his primary goal is to enjoy riding rather than chase records at all costs.

Meanwhile, factory team-mate Pecco Bagnaia endured an even harsher weekend, compounding Ducati's difficulties by crashing out of the grand prix after struggling significantly with tyre wear. Attention now shifts to the upcoming round at Aragon, a venue where Marquez dominated with a double victory last season and where he hopes to regain his competitive footing.
